How to Reset the Ink Pad Counter on Epson EcoTank
Like Canon, Epson EcoTank printers track waste ink electronically, and the resulting error is about a counter limit, not necessarily a full pad.
Symptoms to look for
Message reads printer's ink pads are at the end of their service life
Printer refuses to print, only shows the maintenance message
Occurs on printers that have been in service for 2+ years
What causes it
The internal counter reached its programmed threshold based on estimated ink absorption, which is often conservative relative to actual pad saturation.
How to fix it
Power off the printer fully.
Use Epson's official Adjustment Program or a technician's reset tool to clear the waste ink counter.
Power the printer back on and run a test print.
Monitor for the message returning within the next few dozen prints.
If it returns quickly, schedule a physical pad replacement rather than resetting repeatedly.
Technician's tip
Resetting the counter is safe and routine, but doing it repeatedly without ever replacing the pad risks actual ink overflow inside the printer over time.
