How to Fix Print Quality Streaking on HP Printers
Streaks and bands almost always trace back to the print head, not the printer's electronics — and HP's built-in cleaning tools solve most cases without a service visit.
Symptoms to look for
Horizontal white lines running through printed pages
One color consistently missing or faded
Text appears smudged or uneven in darkness
What causes it
Dried ink in the print head nozzles from infrequent use is the leading cause, followed by low ink levels and, less often, a misaligned print head after a cartridge change.
How to fix it
Open HP Smart or the printer's control panel and run 'Clean Printheads'.
Print a nozzle check pattern to confirm which colors are affected.
Run the cleaning cycle up to 2–3 times if streaking persists, waiting between cycles.
Run 'Align Printer' after cleaning to correct positioning.
If streaking remains after 3 cleaning cycles, the cartridge itself may need replacing.
Technician's tip
Printing a simple test page weekly, even when you don't need to, keeps nozzles from drying out and prevents most streaking before it starts.
