Fixing Recurring Paper Jams on HP LaserJet Printers

A jam that happens once is normal. A jam that happens on the same tray, page after page, points to a specific mechanical or setup issue that a reset alone won't solve.

Symptoms to look for

• Paper jams at the same point in the paper path every time
• Multiple sheets feed together
• Crumpled or torn paper on ejection
• Jam error persists even after clearing visible paper

What causes it

Worn or dirty feed rollers lose grip over time, especially in high-volume offices. Paper that's too heavy, too light, or loaded above the fill line is the second most common cause, followed by a misaligned paper guide.

How to fix it

1. Remove all paper and check the paper path for small torn fragments.
2. Wipe feed rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water.
3. Reload paper below the fill line, fanning the stack first.
4. Confirm the tray's paper-size guides sit snug against the stack, not loose.
5. Check your driver's paper weight setting matches what's actually loaded.
