Canon Wireless Printer Setup, Step by Step

The Canon PRINT app handles wireless pairing more reliably than the printer's own panel menu, especially on networks with special characters in the name.

Symptoms to look for

  • Printer can't find your WiFi network during setup
  • Setup completes but the printer shows no internet connection
  • Printer connects, then disconnects after the app closes

What causes it

Most failures come from 5GHz-only networks (many Canon home printers need 2.4GHz), incorrect WiFi passwords entered on a small panel keyboard, or router isolation settings blocking new devices.

How to fix it

  1. Install Canon PRINT (mobile) or IJ Network Tool (desktop).
  2. Put the printer into WiFi setup mode from its panel.
  3. Select your 2.4GHz network and enter the password carefully in the app rather than on the panel.
  4. Wait for the app to confirm a successful connection.
  5. Print a network test page to verify before installing drivers on other devices.
Technician's tip

If your router uses AP/client isolation for guest networks, connect the printer to your main network instead — isolation mode blocks phone-to-printer communication entirely.
