Solving Jams During Two-Sided Printing on Brother Printers
Jams specific to duplex printing point to the printer's internal flip mechanism rather than the main paper path, which needs a slightly different fix.
Symptoms to look for
Jams only occur when two-sided printing is selected
Single-sided prints work perfectly fine
Paper emerges partially printed or crumpled from the duplex unit
What causes it
A dirty or worn duplex roller, paper that's too heavy or too light for reliable flipping, or humidity affecting paper stiffness are the primary causes.
How to fix it
Remove and inspect the duplex unit (usually slides out from the back of the printer).
Clean the duplex rollers with a lint-free cloth.
Confirm your paper weight is within the manufacturer's supported range for duplex printing.
Reinsert the duplex unit fully until it clicks into place.
Test with a small batch before running a full duplex job.
Technician's tip
Very light or very heavy paper is the top cause of duplex-only jams — standard 20lb office paper is the safest bet for reliable two-sided printing.
